My Favorite Beach Vacation Car Packing Hacks 🚗🏖️
There’s something so exciting about loading up the car for a beach vacation — snacks packed, playlists ready, everyone counting down to vacation mode. But let’s be honest… packing the car can quickly turn chaotic if there’s no plan. Over the years, I’ve picked up a few tricks that make beach trip packing feel so much smoother and less stressful.
- I Start With a Packing Zone
A few days before we leave, I create a “vacation corner” in the house where everything for the trip gets placed. It keeps me from running around the house at the last minute trying to remember where I put the sunscreen, chargers, or beach towels. - I Pack the Car the Night Before
If possible, I try to load as much as I can the night before departure. Beach mornings are exciting enough without adding the stress of packing the trunk while everyone’s asking when we’re leaving. - Beach Gear Goes in Last
While many rental properties have some beach items, you may have to rent or pack some beach items from home. If you are renting items, of course Relax Concierge has you covered. If packing from home, pack your beach gear last so they’re the easiest things to unload once we arrive. - I Keep a “First Hour” Bag Handy
This is one of my favorite tricks. I pack a tote with the things we’ll want immediately when we arrive: phone chargers, snacks, sunscreen, bathing suits, medications, wipes, and a change of clothes. It saves us from unpacking the entire car right away. - Soft Bags > Hard Suitcases
For car trips, I almost always use duffel bags instead of hard luggage. They’re easier to squeeze into odd spaces in the trunk and somehow magically make everything fit better. - Everyone Gets Their Own Bag or Bin
Especially for family trips, I try to keep everyone’s items together. Whether it’s a packing cube, tote, or small bin, it makes unpacking at the beach house so much easier and prevents the “where are my flip flops?” search five minutes after arriving. - I Always Keep Essentials Up Front
I’ve learned the hard way not to bury snacks, chargers, sunglasses, medications, or entertainment under luggage. I keep a small road trip bag within reach in the car so nobody has to unpack half the trunk during a rest stop. - Use Laundry Bags from Day One
I bring at least one large laundry bag and start using it immediately. Wet towels, sandy clothes, and dirty laundry add up quickly at the beach, and keeping them separate helps the rental house stay organized too. - Mesh Bags Are Amazing for Beach Trips
I use mesh bags constantly — for sunscreen, goggles, snacks, seashell collections, chargers, and random beach items. Sand shakes right out and they hold up so much better than plastic bags. - Leave a Little Extra Room
I always try to leave a little open space in the car because somehow beach vacations always end with more stuff coming home than arriving — souvenirs, groceries, leftover snacks, or that last-minute boardwalk purchase no one could resist.
Beach vacations are supposed to feel relaxing from the moment you leave home. These little packing habits have helped make our trips feel more organized, calmer, and honestly a lot more enjoyable. Hope a few of these ideas help make your next beach getaway even easier ☀️
